Nature Visions Expo: Nov 2014
The Nature Visions Expo in Manassas, Virginia features two full days of lectures by locally and nationally known photographers with expertise in a variety of fields. We are honored to speaking at this event. We’ll be presenting 4 different sessions at the Expo on Saturday, Nov 15 & Sunday, Nov 16 – and it’s not too late to register. We hope to see you there! Getting the Natural Look

Varina Patel will talk about workflow, and discuss a variety of techniques for creating natural-looking images. These techniques include the use of graduated ND filters, as well as bracketing to capture the entire dynamic range in any given scene. She will also discuss how and why she chooses multiple color balance settings during post processing… and how she uses layers and masks to retain the natural look of her images.
Working the Location

If this were an ideal world, we would have plenty of time and money to capture all of the photos that we want to shoot. Unfortunately, this is not an ideal world. Floods, droughts, road closures, and motorcycle rallies tend to interfere with our best laid plans. In the ‘real’ world, pros use a sound workflow to overcome the many hurdles we may run into out in the field. In this lecture, Jay Patel will discuss his own workflow and his general approach to photography… along with real-life examples. In addition, he’ll talk about how he maximizes his efficiency in the field.
Composition & Perception

Composition is usually taught as a set of rules, but even a perfectly exposed photo that follows the rules of composition does not always create an impact. To create true impact, the photographer must go beyond the rules of composition to influence the viewer using a basic understanding of how others will view their work. In this lecture, Varina Patel will discuss composition and perception and how she uses each of these to create an impact with her photographs.
The Business of Photography

In this lecture, Jay Patel will discuss some insights into how he uses social media to effectively market his photography. He will give you a broad overview of today’s landscape and nature photography markets. And finally, he will discuss tools for collaboration and strategies for content creation that make it possible to run a thriving photography business that reaches across continents.

I will just sum it up and say that I am a Landscape and Wilderness Photographer who loves to capture dramatic light. My photographs have been published in various magazines, calendars and advertising materials throughout the world.
