Travel Photography

Travel photography is a genre which focuses on documenting a particular area. It showcases images reflecting many aspects of a location. Photography can include a location’s landscape, people, culture, food, customs, and the location’s history. It’s about photographing locations with appeal in all their glory. It is allowing the viewer to vicariously join the adventure.

Travel photographers often live their lives on the road going from one photography trip to the next. Certainly, there are perks in traveling around the world. However, travel photography presents its own set of challenges. For instance, there is the initial investment of traveling to build a travel portfolio. Second, travel gear needs to be applicable for any possible setting and handle every type of weather condition. Additionally, it needs to be light and easily hauled from photography trip to photography trip.  As if that wasn’t enough, travel photographers need equipment to essentially create a mobile office so they can work from any place in the world. Along with the camera gear, accessories, and electronics, travel photographers need to dress properly for all types of weather.  For someone who needs to travel light, that’s a lot of things to Tetris into making this a hobby or profession.

Travel photography isn’t simply about taking photos in different places; it is about choosing a life of exploration and telling those stories through impactful and thought-provoking travel images. Visual Wilderness’s team of travel professionals share their knowledge on how to become a successful travel photographer as well as offering specific insights to travel destinations throughout the world.
