Quick Tips: Leading Lines

I love using leading lines in my photos. They serve to lead the viewer through the image and can help add impact as well. I try hard to simplify my images – and leading lines can help with that. When I look for a shot on a beach, I’m looking for a path of rocks, the lines in the shifting waves, or patterns in the sand.

The goal with leading lines is to make sure they lead you through the image, or toward the primary point of interest. Leading lines that drop you off the edge of the photo aren’t very effective.

Try to imagine photographing these locations without leading lines. Do you think that the images would be as effective? Do leading lines improve the photograph?

About Author Varina Patel

There is nothing more remarkable to me than the power of nature. It is both cataclysmic and subtle. Slow and continuous erosion by water and wind can create landscapes every bit as astonishing as those shaped by catastrophic events – and minuscule details can be as breathtaking as grand vistas that stretch from one horizon to the other. Nature is incredibly diverse. Burning desert sands and mossy riverbanks… Brilliant sunbeams and fading alpenglow… Silent snowfall and raging summer storms… Each offers a unique opportunity. I am irresistibly drawn to the challenge of finding my next photograph, and mastering the skills required to capture it effectively.

Im proud to get your attractive sense in photography. I love photography, but due to my shallow knowledge, its not well composed. But after going through your photographs and words that keeps the viewers content to Images….really works excellent..Thanks once again.

I am so glad I found your site! I am thoroughly enjoying seeing your photography, and also reading what you accomplish with your camera! I especially love seeing nature through your lens!
I think I used your Leading Lines to emphasize my words. I wanted my words to emphasize my Dad’s downhill struggle and the “going down” into the valley. I think you caught the feeling by leading lines your photo!
My words of the going down into the valley can be found at: http://climbverticalwithme.blogspot.com/
where you can find your photo, too. I hope you don’t mind it when I put words to your photography! I love to write, yet your photo leads the thought!
    Thanks again!
