We want to take some time to wish you happy holidays and say thank you for another great year.
What began as just another year at Visual Wilderness produced some significant changes in how we do business. Here are some highlights from 2017:
VW Membership
The biggest change at Visual Wilderness came this past Fall when we launched our membership service. We were unsure how this would go, but it proved to be highly effective. Starting at ONLY $19.95/month, Visual Wilderness Members get unlimited access to ALL current and future video courses.
The second biggest change this year was that we transformed Visual Wilderness into a multi-vendor site; we now offer landscape educational material from our highly-talented contributing photographers. Here are some of the most popular offerings from our contributing photographers in 2017.
Varina and I added more video courses to Visual Wilderness this year then any previous year. Wide Angle Lenses, Creating Impact Vol-2, and Getting it Right in Camera Vol-2 were brand new video courses in our 2017 collection. We also updated our two most popular video courses: In Sharp Focus and Hyperfocal Distance Course.
Contributors’ articles were more popular then ever. Be end of 2017, we had over 660 articles with various contributing authors. We also had the opportunity to share stories and technical articles from a number of talented guest authors. Here are a some of the articles from our Visual Wilderness blog in 2017.
I could startoff like this – “Seeds of Jay Patel’s appreciation for beautiful places were planted early in his childhood….” but it would get boring really fast. I will just sum it up and say that I am a Landscape and Wilderness Photographer who loves to capture dramatic light. My photographs have been published in various magazines, calendars and advertising materials throughout the world. Patience is a virtue...unless you are chasing your dreams

What People Are Saying
Keep up the great work
I didn’t know Histograms could be so easily manipulated with such awesome results. I purchased this a few weeks, ago, and have viewed all the videos five or six times. Having been a public school teacher for 40+ years before retiring, I know what makes excellent teaching, and you, two, are some of the best instructors I’ve seen in the field of photography. Keep up the great work, and keep adding new additions to your ebooks and videos collections.
I have been enjoying your videos from Hyperfocal Distance and The Ultimate Landscape Photography Courses. And I must say you – Jay and Varina – explain photography really well. And I love the humour that you guys bring.

Every single case study was excellent
Great course! I am loving the narrower scope but more in-depth approach and both the “in the field” workflow and “the photo I didn’t take” explanations. Every single case study was excellent. (Behind the Lens Course)

Best photography webinar I’ve every taken
Mastering Exposure Webinar was the best photography webinar I’ve every taken. I’ve taken lots of seminars where they talked about their pictures but in this one, they showed a video of how they determined their settings while in the field. Very helpful.

Lots of in depth information
Mastering Exposure Webinar had lots of in depth information. Very logically presented. Thank you SO much!

I have learned so much from the videos
Visual Wilderness Streaming Service is the one service that I subscribe to that I truly would be heartbroken to lose!!! I have learned so much from the videos and love that I can go back and re-watch them to refresh myself whenever I want. I knew the videos were outstanding, but I’m in awe at how amazing your customer service is.

I learned about the creative focusing technique
I learned about the creative focusing technique from In Sharp Focus Webinar . I had never thought about masking areas and using different focusing techniques in each area.

Great stuff!
I’m enjoying your Creating Impact Course video tutorials and case studies. They’ve really helped clarify a number of areas that have always been a big vague for me – like hyperfocal distance! I’ve also really appreciated seeing your thought process when deciding how to photograph a location and the steps you work through in post processing. Great stuff! :)

I am having so much fun
You have both brought my learning forward big time with your Histogram Exposed Course. I only got my first dslr 2 weeks ago. You have given me the skills to get results straight away. I am having so much fun experimenting in manual mode. Something I didn’t think was possible so early in my journey.
